ABOUT

taste trough The taste of Torafu Kirishima

Torafu Kirishima is a sweet potato honkaku shochu characterized by its naturally crisp bitterness, gentle aroma, and sweetness. Like Japanese green tea, the tart notes enhance its sweetness, for a complex yet smooth blend of flavors.

Incense A floral and
woody aroma

The primary aroma is a hint of rose, followed by fresh wood aromas,
and culminating in the intense scent of forests and the earth.

malt Characteristics of Torafu Kirishima

This shochu contains yellow koji cultures, which are used in sake brewing, and the black koji we use for Kuro Kirishima. Combining these two types of koji produced completely new flavors and aromas. Inspired by the black and yellow stripes of a powerful tiger, we named this shochu Torafu Kirishima (“torafu” means tiger stripes).

The design of Torafu Kirishima’s label reflects its flavor profile. The soft color palette embodies its floral aroma and sweet flavor, while the tiger motif reflects its crisp tartness. The tiger stripe pattern is also a form of beauty created by timeless nature. Tiger-striped bamboo, shogi pieces, and oak wood used in luxury furniture are all treasured as highly valued items, and we reflected these aspects in the label.

  • Our preparation method

    Kirishima Shuzo’s Unique Three-Step Fermentation

The more steps involved in fermentation, the smoother the shochu. Torafu Kirishima goes through more fermentation steps than standard shochu, and this intricate process leads to a smoother finish. It is carefully prepared using Kirishima Shuzo’s original three-step fermentation method, which enhances the sweetness and floral aroma.
