How to enjoy shochu on the rocks

Part 1

First, make block ice using mineral water or something similar, and prepare crushed ice blocks.

Part 2

Fill the glass with a generous amount of ice, then pour shochu up to about 70% of the glass.

Part 3

Stir slowly to dissolve the ice: three times to the right and once to the left.

Part 4

Add more ice to the glass.

Part 5

Pour in more shochu.

Part 6

When water droplets appear on the surface of the glass, it's ready to drink.

POINT

When pouring room-temperature shochu over ice, the ice tends to melt more than expected.
By filling the glass with a generous amount of ice, you can enjoy delicious, chilled shochu from the first sip to the last.

How to enjoy Mizu-wari (shochu mixed with cold water)

Part 1

First, make block ice using mineral water or something similar, and prepare crushed ice blocks.

Part 2

Fill the glass with a generous amount of ice and pour in your desired amount of shochu.

Part 3

Stir slowly to dissolve the ice: three times to the right and once to the left.

Part 4

Add more ice to the glass, then pour in cold mineral water.

Part 5

Gently stir 2 to 3 times.

Part 6

When water droplets appear on the surface of the glass, it's ready to drink.

POINT

Since alcohol has a lower relative density than water, it's said to be easier to mix if you pour the shochu first.
Also, the flavor can change depending on the alcohol content, so feel free to adjust the proportions to your taste.

How to enjoy Oyu-wari (shochu mixed with hot water)

Part 1

First, pour hot water into the glass.

Part 2

Then, slowly pour in the shochu.

Part 3

Adjust the alcohol content to your preference by changing the ratio of shochu to hot water.

POINT

Since shochu is cooler than the hot water, pouring it last allows it to reach the bottom of the glass and mix thoroughly.
Also, it's said that the human tongue perceives sweetness more strongly at temperatures slightly higher than body temperature.
Preparing your Oyu-wari (shochu mixed with hot water) at a higher temperature and drinking it after it has cooled slightly can enhance the flavor.

How to enjoy Tansan-wari (shochu mixed with carbonated water)

Part 1

First, make block ice using mineral water or something similar, and prepare crushed ice blocks.

Part 2

Fill the glass with a generous amount of ice, then pour shochu up to about one-third of the glass.

Part 3

Stir slowly to dissolve the ice: three times to the right and once to the left.

Part 4

Slowly pour in the cold carbonated water.

Part 5

To avoid losing the carbonation, gently stir just once.

Part 6

When water droplets appear on the surface of the glass, it's ready to drink.

POINT

Using highly carbonated water helps enhance the aroma of honkaku shochu.
To preserve the fizz, be sure to pour the carbonated water gently over the ice and stir carefully.
